Analysis of dysarthric speech by means of formant-to-area mapping

چکیده
This article presents a preliminary study of dysarthric speech by means of formant-to-area mapping. Dysarthria is a speech impairment which is the result of paralysis or ataxia of the speech muscles. Formant-to-area mapping is the inference of the shape of a tract model via observed formant frequencies. The corpus is composed of vowelvowel sequences [iaia] produced by speakers su ering from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and normal speakers. The results show that the shapes and movements of the acoustically mapped area function models are typical of the motions and postures of the vocal tracts of ALS speakers.

Formant centralization ratio: a proposal for a new acoustic measure of dysarthric speech.
PURPOSE The vowel space area (VSA) has been used as an acoustic metric of dysarthric speech, but with varying degrees of success. In this study, the authors aimed to test an alternative metric to the VSA-the formant centralization ratio (FCR), which is hypothesized to more effectively differentiate dysarthric from healthy speech and register treatment effects. METHOD Speech recordings of 38 i...

Setup of an emotion recognition or emotional speech recognition system is directly related to how emotion changes the speech features. In this research, the influence of emotion on the anger and happiness was evaluated and the results were compared with the neutral speech. So the pitch frequency and the first three formant frequencies were used. The experimental results showed that there are lo...

Dysarthria is a diverse group of motor speech disorders that typically are associated with impaired intelligibility. As part of a project to develop augmentative communication technologies for intelligibility enhancement of dysarthric speech, a quantitative method is proposed for measuring the relative contributions to impaired intelligibility of vowels of three factors: First, target shift: Dy...
متن کاملF0 and formant frequency distribution of dysarthric speech - a comparative study
We are investigating acoustical analysis for dysarthric speech, which appears as a symptom of neurologic disease, in order to elucidate its physiological and acoustical mechanism, and to develop aids for diagnosis and training, etc. In this report, acoustical characteristics of various kinds of dysarthrias are measured. As a result, shrinking of the F0 range as well as vowel space are observed ...
متن کاملDistinguishing Dysarthric Speech: Vowel Acoustics and Measurement
Centralization of vowel formants has been associated with reduced intelligibility in healthy speakers and those with motor speech disorders [1-3]. Hence, estimations of speakers’ vowel space area (VSA) provide a promising avenue for assessing speech motor control. However, VSA measurements have traditionally demonstrated limited success in distinguishing healthy and disordered speech [1, 3]. On...
